Way back when we launched this website, we determined our main goal is to talk about the Land Rover- all of the good and the bad. We feel if you know everything you possibly can, you will love your Landie when you get it.
Certainly we are not the first website you've stumbled upon reading about the Land Rover LR4, as much as we'd like to be. And at some point in your searches you may have seen the reviews by Consumer Reports in the past about the new LR4. We started seeing the reviews last winter and couldn't understand the conclusions as the LR4 was a completely new vehicle. Consumer Reports have, respectfully, never been huge fans of the Land Rover brand. Not to say the vehicles weren't beautiful and enviable- but Consumer Reports is the tell-all when it comes to comparisons and best buys in the market for everything from service to resale. And people listen.
We held our breath when we came across this review. And it's good! Land Rover worked hard make positive changes in this new LR4 from comfort to market affordability, while keeping the things we love about the previous LR3 and Discoveries. Of course there are things we wish Mr. Mutchler loved more, but his positive presentation and appreciation of improvements are much to be rejoiced. The reception of the LR4 and Discovery 4 since the fall 2009 launch has been astounding. Overall, Land Rover as a brand keeps creeping up the ranks in sales and customer service satisfaction. Progress is progress and that is what we like to see!

We love this LR4 commercial- Enjoy!
We LOVE the way Ann Job, of The Associated Press, opens her article in The Washington Post about the NEW LR4: "..improved ride and handling, prettier front styling and more power and luxury appointments than its predecessor." This is a great, honest article about all of the glories of the new LR4 and also raises common concerns with the design many of you shoppers may be thinking. In this case, let's start with the good points first!
The Land Rover LR4 is more competitive in price than you think! Yes, it's a little more than the LR3 last year, but certainly not without justification. There are more standard luxuries and a more powerful, efficient engine just to name a few. The price of the Luxury Package test vehicle in this article was $61,715. Compare to the 4-wheel drive Cadillac Escalade starting at $65,995 and the all-wheel drive BMW X5 in comparison starting at $57,025.
With all-wheel drive as a standard and the new V8 direct-injection engine, the LR4's "power came on steadily" and "takes corners with surprising composure". Ms. Job also dotes on the plush new interior upgrades and smooth ride.
We also want you to know there are un-favored topics of discussion. First is always fuel economy. Ms. Job noted the poor fuel economy, which is far from the efficiency of a Prius. Land Rover engineers are working away trying to come up with ways to find more fuel efficient performance without compromising off-roading capabilities. The direct-injection engine is a a step forward! Ms. Job also noted the height difficulties climbing in the LR4! We hope she was shown the 3 different hydraulic access levels on the LR4! She also noted the clunky navigation and the awkwardness of the split rear tailgate. The tailgate is designed to allow easier access, but if you're used to a whole tailgate opening, this can take time getting used to.
Of course, we feel the good definitely outweighs the bad. But we want everyone to be prepared when looking into purchasing an LR4. We truly enjoyed Ms. Job's well-written and very honest article. For Ann Job's complete article from The Washington Post, click here:
The LR4 has been announced the winner of Bloomberg's inaugural "Car of the Year" Award. The all new Land Rover LR4 beat out 20 other vehicles in the "All-Around SUV Category". We're not surprised! Awards or not, the LR4 drives like a dream and will surely win many more awards.
